Absolute minimum: 10*20m
Ideal: 25*50m
Massive: 50*100m great for driving but poor racing unless we get 20+ entries:
Track can be sand, dirt, grass, concrete or tarmac. If it's grass, the grass will get torn up. Loose or soft surfaces need to be reasonably flat.
Pits, including charging
Absolute minimum: 2*2m per entry
Reasonable: 2*4m per entry
Ideal: 4*4m per entry
Pits need to be covered. We can bring up to four of 4.5*4.5m pit tents.
Track must be marked by cones, plastic totes, curbs, straw bales, traffic barriers (in reverse preference order).
Need 2m between track barrier and crowd barrier.
Crowd barrier can be net and fence pins or metal crowd barriers. Single line of hazard tape is minimum but needs to be only used on low traffic areas (e.g. around pits), as children will dip under and get on track if used as a primary crowd barrier around the track.
On hard surfaces, either the track barrier or crowd barrier need to be fairly weighty to arrest out of control karts. On soft surfaces, the net and fence pins are the bare minimum. In lieu of payment, we usually ask that host events provide the track and crowd barriers. If budget is tight, we can provide barriers for soft surfaces.
Power:
Minimum: 2kw total (but very challenging to manage)
Generally adequate: 6kw total
Ideal; 1kw per entry
We will race in any weather, provided the track doesn't get so boggy/slippery that we can't get around.
Health, safety and insurance
We're covered by Motorsport uks insurance, and follow their regulations, as well as our own. All racers are tech checked and driver competency assessed.
We will bring basic first aid materials, and suitable fire extinguishers. We ask that host events provide professional medical first responders, though it's not essential. Similarly, we will manage the crowd using the barriers and PA, but we may call on the host events for support if the crowd gets dangerous or disruptive.
